This project started a long time ago when I was a little girl thanks to my mother, an animal lover, and to my German Shepherd “Tim” that died when he was only 8 years old because of a pancreatic cancer. Back then I promised myself that I would study all what I could about healing animals, not only veterinary medicine but also some alternative therapies in order to help those that I truly love: The Animals.
I got my veterinary degree in Spain over 25 years ago and ran my own practice along with my husband for 15 years. I learned about Animal Nutrition, Homeopathy, Flower Essences, Essential oils, Food Supplements, Animal Communication, Reiki… and became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist by IVAS in January 2012. Thanks to all of that I was able to use a Holistic Integrative Medicine approach to treat the animals.
I registered as a Veterinary Nurse in the Veterinary Surgeon Board of WA in November 2014 and went to Darwin in September 2015 where I worked as a vet nurse and a wildlife carer until July 2018 when I became the “Holistic Animal Naturopath” and started my own bussiness. I came to Brisbane in April 2019 and I have been working as Vet Technician and also as Animal Naturopath since then.
Hello, my name is Marta Calvo!
I have been working as a holistic vet for many years and I have also been living with animals all my life and I love it!
When I was 14 years old my German Shepherd “Tim” died and I decided that I would dedicate my life to improve animal welfare, to help animal guardians feel supported with their pets from their very first hug until their last, that I would learn everything I could about healing animals.
In 1996 I graduated as a VMD in Spain (Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours) and started working for Hill’s pet Company first and later on for Royal Canine as a Small Animal Nutrition Technician. I learned about Nutrition, food supplements, benefits and disadvantages of the dry commercial food, metabolism, digestion and all about homemade diets for different health issues.
In 2002 I opened my own veterinary clinic in the North of Spain, in Asturias, along with my husband, fulfilling my childhood dreams. But as the years passed, I learnt that western medicine did not provide all the solutions that I was looking for and therefore I could not accomplish all the results I wanted. This situation generated in me a lot frustration and sadness, to the point that I even considered to stop practicing as a veterinarian.
In 2006 a close relative had a health problem that conventional doctors could not solve without risking her health. Because of that, I searched for options and I discovered in alternative medicine, a source, resources and knowledge that besides healing my family member, stimulated my desire for professional learning. Leading me to study some natural therapies and to do an International Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2010 (IVAS) that would change my life.
From that moment on and with the help of my EMVI mentors, I decided to follow this path and started treating animals with a different approach more focused on the quality of life and care they deserve using alternative therapies. I started working at my veterinary clinic in a holistic way, always looking for the best option for each animal, looking for coherence between the world of western medicine and the world of natural medicines and doing a complementary type of medicine that bridged the gap between the world of allopathic and integrative veterinary care.
This perspective of holistic complementary medicine led us to some other personal changes and in 2014 we closed the clinic, turned our lives around and along with the rest of the family decided to come to live in Australia, where I currently reside and where I share with my clients my new vision of the real animal care.
From Brisbane and Darwin I can work with my clients personally, but I now I can also work online for those who prefer this modality due to distances or lack of time, because they need an alternative response and cannot receive in-person care.
I am a Veterinary Graduated in Spain and certified in Veterinary Acupuncture by the most prestigious entity in the world in Chinese Medicine for animals (IVAS) thanks to the School of Integrative Veterinary Medicine (EMVI)
